Planning a Christmas Wedding ..........

What's more romantic than getting married during Christmas?  Planning a winter wedding adds more magic to the holidays.  It's the most wonderful time of year and Christmas weddings have lots of fantastic ideas to add sparkle to your special day.

I found these cute ideas that I wanted to share with everyone!  The first is a centerpiece that goes on the reception tables. I absolutely LOVE how they incorporated candy canes into the Christmas theme!  It is just beautiful with the red roses and the shiny glass marbles on the table.

I also found this fantastic wedding cake that clearly shouts "Christmas Wedding".  It is amazing how creative bakers are with their unique wedding cakes.  I simply adore this cake!  The detail that went into this cake is incredible!  The little white shiny balls, the beautiful bow, little poinsettias & the monogram on the front.

This time of year is always special to people and the glow of the season could be even more enhanced with the addition of wedding sparklers at the end of the night.  Most venues are already heavily decorated with lights and having the bride and groom run through a tunnel of sparklers would make beautiful pictures!  I can't think of a more fabulous time of year to have wedding sparklers!!

Holiday Sparkler Display

Our dear friend Malia at yesterdayontuesday.com sent in some great ideas on displaying your holiday sparklers.

Using sparklers as Christmas party favors will create a spectacular event for everyone to remember.  What better way to celebrate than by bringing a little extra magic to the season.

Check out how creative Malia was with her holiday sparklers.  I love the petite red and white ribbon she tied around a bundle of sparklers - it reminded me of candy canes.

Malia used our #10 Gold Party Sparklers in her display.  These sparklers are made of wire and have a burn time of 35 - 45 seconds.

Thank you Malia for sending in your creative Christmas idea!!

Sparkler Send Off Ideas

I ran across this website that has adorable wedding sparkler send-off ideas and wanted to share them with you!

My favorite is the printable sparkler holder.  What a cute idea for the brides who want to hand out individual sparklers to each guest.  For a small additional fee, you can have these personalized.

I also really like the "perfect exit sign".  Brides can have this sign sitting next the sparklers so as each guest grabs a sparkler, they will read the sign and know to line up and make an arch with their sparkler. This will help with getting guests lined up and ready for the bride and groom to make their exit.

Check out this website for more cute things to couple with your sparklers to create an unforgettable send off.

Tips from a Wedding Planner

I just received this gorgeous picture from Elizabeth Gonzalez, a wedding planner from After Yes Weddings.  She sent in the picture along with a sweet message saying "We use Wedding Sparklers from BuySparklers.com because they stay lit longer and are ideal for photos".  It is always nice to hear positive feedback from people who use our product, but it is especially nice from someone in the wedding industry!  We take great pride in the quality of our sparklers and we want every bride to have a great experience with them.

Gila and Alan, October 15, 2011
Elizabeth also shared some great tips that I wanted to pass along on lighting the sparklers to ensure a beautiful send off:

"Wedding guests are always excited when they get to send a couple off using sparklers. To make the exit a success, line guest up in two rows as you pass out sparklers - do not light them right away! Get everyone, including the photographer in place. Have the bride and groom at the door waiting and just before they begin to exit, start lighting the sparklers. Once a few are lit, they can be lit off one another, which goes faster. Have guests hold the sparklers high and still and send the bride and groom on their way!"

Thank you for the great advice Elizabeth!  If you are getting married in the Dallas area, be sure to call Elizabeth with your wedding planning needs.  She is dedicated to making your vision a reality and creating an unforgettable event!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween weddings can create special ambiance that reflects the season, but yet keeping some elegant aspects too.  Having your wedding day on Halloween, brides can have a traditional ceremony and can have fun with their special day.

I recently saw a Halloween wedding reception video where the bridal party choreographed a dance to Michael Jackson's "Thriller".  I thought that was a very clever idea.  They had the DJ play Halloween favorites, like Monster Mash and songs from A Nightmare Before Christmas and all the guests joined in for Halloween fun.

You don't necessarily have to have the groomsmen wearing vampire teeth just because it is Halloween.  Elegance can be achieved and still have the whimsical, fun flair of Halloween. Check out this wedding cake I found.  It is amazing how beautiful this cake is with the orange and black colors.

I hope everyone has a great time tonight trick or treating!

Champagne Bottle Sparklers

Many restaurants, bars and night clubs are ordering our Champagne Bottle Sparklers in larger quantities to take advantage of our wholesale discount pricing.  Basically, the larger the order, the more you save!  But we want to make it easy for anyone to use them at small parties and celebrations.  So we have a smaller package of just 8 bottle sparklers on the list.  And we are happy to see both wedding customers and Diwali customers adding one or two of these packs to their sparkler orders!

Our owner, Shandelle, took a bunch of them to her annual "girls only" weekend a few weeks ago.  She and her friends flew to Tampa from all around the country and celebrated with a few bottles of bubbly upon their arrival.  Of course Shandelle couldn't resist the opportunity to make the evening even more memorable by lighting a few Bottle Sparklers.  Below are a few photos of the special occasion!

Diwali and Halloween!

Happy October!  This is a busy month for www.buysparklers.com as we help our customers celebrate two fun holidays:  Diwali and Halloween.  We teamed up with blogger Malia Karlinsky at http://www.yesterdayontuesday.com to show you creative ways to use sparklers as favors for Diwali celebrations and Halloween parties.

This year, Diwali well be celebrated on October 26, 2011.  In India, large fireworks displays are part of the Diwali celebration.  In the United States, many locations do not allow the personal use of fireworks at this time of year, but sparklers are a great alternative!  Malia wrapped up boxes of our #14 Gold Sparklers in colorful tissue paper and matched them with a traditional sweet for the Festival of Lights.

Halloween is also right around the corner on October 31, 2011.  Malia dressed up a trick-or-treat candy bag and added a box of our #10 Gold Sparktastic! sparklers to hand out as favors at a Halloween party.  While we recommend that sparklers not be used by children under age 8 and that all children using sparklers should be supervised by an adult, these make great favors for adult Halloween parties.  Sparklers are fun to use outside on Halloween or any night of the year!  (Don't forget Día de los Muertos - Day of the Dead - on November 1, 2011!!)

Many thanks to Malia at http://www.yesterdayontuesday.com for her creative DIY holiday ideas for our sparklers!  (More holiday ideas are coming from her later this year!)

Browse our selection of sparklers at http://www.buysparklers.com and get ready for your next party or celebration.

Getting Married on 11-11-11?

Are you getting married on 11-11-11?  Couples like to get married on repetitive dates not just because it is catchy or easy to remember, but may believe it can be a lucky day for them.

There is a lot of buzz going on about the importance of this day.  Numerologists state that the number 11 has an equal balance of masculine and feminine properties which represents the couple.  They believe there is great significance on this day for romance.  Here is how they break it down:

1 + 1 = 2  - The number 2 represents love and they feel you always want the number 2 in your wedding date.

1 + 1 + 1+ 1 = 4  - The number 4 represents couples and their commitment.

Looking at how the day is broken down, it is easy to see why couples are racing to get married on this day.  Wedding venues booked up extremely fast this year on this date.  11-11-11 has been more popular to get married on then 10-10-10 and has caught many wedding professionals off guard with the rush of brides clamoring to get married on this day.  Especially since it falls on a Friday and typically most weddings occur on a Saturday.

One bride believes the number 11 is such good luck that she is having everyone make a wish at their reception at 11:11 pm. Another bride is making their get-a-way through a tunnel of sparklers at exactly 11:11 pm because she also heard that is was good luck on this day.

I would love to hear from brides as to why they chose this date to get married on!  E-mail me your story at info@buysparklers.com.

Halloween Fun!

Create a "spooktacular" Halloween Party that guests will remember by adding sparklers or snappers to your celebration!

When it gets dark, the spooky glow from the sparklers will create surprise and excitement.  Have guests write the word "Boo" in the air with the sparklers - this makes a really cute photo!  The sparklers are also great for Halloween Party Favors too!

playerzblog.com

A great alternative to using sparklers are our snappers.  Kids of all ages love throwing them on the ground and hearing the loud pop it makes! They can also be used to scare trick-or-treaters walking by.

There are so many neat ideas you can use sparklers for to create a magical party!  Be sure to order them in advance so that they will arrive in plenty of time!

New Bottle Sparklers

We just received our newest addition to our sparkler family ...... Bottle Sparklers!!!

These are great for nightclubs, restaurants and bars or private celebrations.  They can really spice up your evening with the beautiful fountain that sprays up out of your champagne bottle.

www.albertosphotos.com

I took these sparklers to test them out at a local hotspot here in San Antonio, Club Rio.  What a perfect location to showcase our new product!  The outdoor atmosphere made the perfect photo opportunity to show our sparklers in action.

These sparklers light differently than a regular sparkler.  They have a flat top on them and when lit, produces a gorgeous 6 - 8 inch fountain that shoots straight out of the bottle and burns for about 40 seconds.  What a magnificent presentation these sparklers made when the waiter carried them out into the crowd.

www.albertosphotos.com

I loved watching the expression on everyone's face as they watched the sparkler light up the night sky.  I thought they enhanced an already perfect evening at Club Rio .... the outdoor swimming pool, the music playing, people dancing and groups of friends gathered around and then the addition of the sparklers just made the night unforgettable!

www.albertosphotos.com

I would like to thank Ricardo Jardon and his fabulous staff at Club Rio for letting us come test out our bottle sparklers!

And a special thank you to Alberto Delcampo for taking such exquisite photos for us!

New Video from Cierra & Jeremie

I recently received a video from a bride that I just had to share with you!

http://youtu.be/BfeJyZkR_As

I get asked a lot of questions about setting up the grand exit, how the guests are supposed to line up, and what is a safe distance to stand away from the bride and groom when they are making their grand exit.  When I saw this video I thought it illustrated a proper exit.

When gathering guests together, have them make the 2 lines and have their sparkler in hand.  Be sure to have a couple of designated "stagers" that have BBQ lighters ready (regular lighters and matches are not strong enough to light the sparklers) and have one stager at the front of the line and one stager at the end of the line.  Once the first sparkler is lit, have guests dip their unlit sparkler into a lit one to ensure that the lighting goes quickly.

Tell guests to hold their sparklers out away from them and high in the air so that the bride and groom can walk / run through the tunnel without having to bend over or crouch down.  This is not only safer, but also makes better photos.

Thank you to Cierra and Jeremie for sending in this great video!!

Diwali is Fast Approaching !

Diwali is a five day festival that represents the start of the Hindu New Year. It honors the victory of good over evil, and brightness over darkness. It also marks the start of winter.  Diwaili starts this year on October 24th, with the main festivities taking place on October 26th.  Small clay lamps (called diyas) and candles are lit and placed in houses, and fireworks are let off everywhere, giving Diwali its name of “Festival of Lights”.

The rituals vary according to region. However, special blessings are given to Laxshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, and Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. The Goddess Laxshmi is believed to have been created from the churning of the ocean on the main Diwali day, and that she'll visit every home during the Diwali period, bringing with her prosperity and good fortune. It’s said that she visits the cleanest houses first, therefore people make sure their houses are spotless before lighting lamps to invite her in. Small statues of the Goddess are also worshiped in people’s homes.

http://goindia.about.com/od/festivalpictures/ig/Diwali-Photos/Lighting-Diwali-Candles.htm

The glow from the candles and sparklers makes Diwali a very warm and atmospheric festival.   Diwali is a very busy time of year for BuySparklers.com, so please be sure to place your order in plenty of time so that your sparklers will arrive before the festival starts.

Labor Day Weddings

With the 3 day weekend, Labor Day is becoming a popular time of year to get married.  September provides a summery feel with a touch of coolness.  The milder weather has many brides planning casual, outdoor wedding themes.

stylemepretty.com

What better way to end summer than with a beautiful send off from the bride and groom?  Sparklers can create magical moments that will never be forgotten! Wedding sparklers are perfect for adding glow and beauty to one's "big day", thus enhancing the moment and appreciation of love already generated by your celebration.

September is a very busy time of year, so be sure to order your sparklers in advance so that they will arrive in plenty of time for your event.  Sparklers have a shelf life of 3 years if they are kept dry, so there isn't a need to wait on ordering them.

If you have questions about what size would be better suited for your exit or need help figuring out what quantity to order, please call Nicole at 210-250-0520.

Sparklers in Commercial Photography

I love to show you pictures of our sparklers in action at weddings and other special events, but today I thought I would share a different photo.  This is a commercial photo shot by Andrew Watson of Swinglight Photography based in San Antonio, TX.  He is also the talented photographer behind the camera for all of the products you see on our website at BuySparklers.com!

Andrew set up this product picture as part of a bid for a larger job a few years back.  He just happened to purchase the sparklers from BuySparklers.com.  Then last year, when we were looking for a commercial photographer, a friend referred us to him.  He remembered working with the sparklers and we were excited to have the previous connection!

You can find Andrew online and see more of his fantastic images at http://www.swinglight.com/.

New York to Legalize Sparklers

The New York State Legislature passed a bill recently that legalizes the sell of sparklers and other novelty related items.  Next year New Yorkers will be able to purchase sparklers without crossing the state line.

lovelyuglydesign.blogspot.com

Although it wasn't a unanimous decision, some members voted against it because of the safety issue with children.  I encourage parents to buy wire based sparklers since they are smokeless and will not ash off.  The bamboo sparklers ash off quickly and they can cause serious burns.  It is also a good idea to have a bucket of water or sand ready to dispose of the used sparklers since the wire will be VERY hot.

This is exciting news and starting 2012 New Yorkers will be able to safely and legally demonstrate their patriotism as well as have sparklers at any celebration during the year.

Beautiful Wedding Picture from Virginia

I received this beautiful picture from a bride in Virginia and just had to share it with you!  I talk with so many brides and help them plan their grand exit, making sure they order the right size sparklers and also that they have the proper amount of sparklers needed to ensure a perfect evening.  I love hearing all about the wedding venue and how the exit is being planned - it is so nice to actually see pictures of how beautiful it turned out!

Photo taken by Cherie Cullen
This is such a sweet picture of Katie and Erich!  I like how their exit was properly planned, giving them enough room to walk through the tunnel of wedding sparklers and actually stopping as the groom steals a kiss.

If you have pictures that you would like to share from your wedding, please send them to me at info@buysparklers.com.  I enjoy seeing all of them and if your picture is selected to be showcased on our website, we will send you a gift card.

Memorial Day

This special holiday is set aside to remember and honor all of those who died serving our country during war. With the 3 day weekend, the true meaning of this holiday has gotten a little lost.  In 1915 Moina Michael conceived the idea to wear red poppies on this day to symbolize the blood of the heroes who died.  This tradition later spread to the VFW who now sell the poppies for charity this time of year.

For me, we have always celebrated Memorial Day with family and friends gathered around the BBQ.  My family is big on traditions, so certain things will take place without a doubt.  I can always count on hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled corn on the cob, lots of music blaring while playing games of washers and kids splashing in the pool.

The end of the night my dad always makes his annual speech about all the men and women serving our country and we say a prayer for their safe return home.  I am not sure why, but we always light sparklers after he makes his speech.  This tradition has been around since I was a child and we have always looked forward to it.  As a child, we knew as soon as he finished talking we could light the sparklers.... As an adult I still look forward to the holiday sparklers, but I now really cherish his speech and the meaning behind it.

I hope everyone has a safe, fun Memorial Day and if you know a veteran, or an active member of the military or can recall  someone who fought for our country and passed on, take a moment to consider their service.  We are all better off for it!

The 4 C's of choosing your sparkler

Diamonds are often referred to as "sparklers" because of their shine.  There are so many choices and things to consider when choosing a diamond ring, but I bet you didn't know that the 4 C's are also just as important when selecting your sparklers!

CUT - The cut of a diamond allows it to make the best use of light.  When selecting a sparkler, choosing the cut, or shape, is also just as important.  Going with the traditional sparkler, you can't go wrong with its beauty.  But the heart shaped sparklers are very unique and will provide something special to the wedding.  Whatever shape you choose, the right sparkler will add pizazz to your celebration.

COLOR - Not only do diamonds range in color, but sparklers do as well.  The most beautiful sparklers are the gold, metallic sparklers.  They provide an elegant hue and make stunningly gorgeous photos and provide lasting memories.  The gold color shows up in pictures beautifully!

CLARITY - Diamonds with fewer inclusions provide a more beautiful gem!  Sparklers also need to be inclusion free.  A good, quality sparkler is made of wire which will be smoke free and will NOT ash off.  This is very important especially at a wedding.  A bamboo sparkler produces smoke and it will ash off which is very dangerous not only to the bride but to the guests as well.  So be sure to choose a wire sparkler for its clarity as well as for its safety.

WEIGHT - The size of your sparkler is vital to the preparation!  BuySparklers.com offers 3 fabulous sizes to choose from.  The #14 Gold Sparkler burns for 1.5 minutes, the #20 Gold Sparkler burns for 2 minutes and our #36 Sparkler burns for 4 exquisite minutes.  Make sure to take the length of your grand exit in mind when choosing the right length for you.  A longer tunnel will require a longer sparkler so that the bride and groom will have enough time to run through with all the sparklers still lit.

Don't rush into your decision.  Take your time and evaluate your choice carefully.  The choice you make will provide long lasting memories of your special day!

How to make a wedding photo POP

I just received this beautiful picture from a bride and had to share it!!!   I really like the contrast of the black and white photo - it really makes the picture POP!!

The bride did a great job in pre-planning by making sure that the tunnel was wide enough to go through without having to duck down while making their grand exit.  It makes such a beautiful picture when all the small details are thought of.  Remember to talk to your photographer and wedding planner for great tips to ensure capturing those memories that will last a lifetime!

Thank you to Jennifer Kaler for sharing this incredible picture of her special day!   Best wishes to you and Andy!!

Spring is in the Air!

You can tell Spring is the air by all the pictures illustrating beautiful wedding ideas.  From the sage green bridesmaid dresses (and coordinating ties for the groomsmen) to the fun and sassy polka dot dresses.

I love looking at all the adorable ideas for decorations and wedding favors.  I saw this robin's egg nest that a bride used in Invermere, BC and fell in love with it!  There are so many exquisite candies out for Easter right now that you could find just about any color candy to match the wedding theme.

And nothing says Spring more than tulips, daffodils and calla lilies!  Be sure to add these flowers to your bouquet or have them as your floral arrangement on tables at the reception.

The soft colors of Spring are a refreshing site to see after such a long, drab winter!

Creating Memories

I recently received an e-mail from a bride in North Texas whose grandmother went through 5 sparklers before they made it out of the reception to start their grand exit.  Her grandmother kept apologizing for going through so many, but said she hasn't done them since she was a kid and was having so much fun with the sparklers!

This brought back memories from my childhood and how there is something so nostalgic about holding a lit sparkler in your hand.  For me it brings back memories of such a fun, care-free time when family was all gathered together to celebrate the 4th of July.  We always had the traditional BBQ with hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, grilled corn on the cob and everyone enjoyed eating fresh, cold watermelon on those hot days while the food was being prepared.  Kids running around and playing in the sprinklers while the adults listened to music and played horseshoes in between cooking.  Once the homemade ice cream and apple pie were brought out for dessert, we knew that the fireworks would soon begin.  The sparklers always came out first and excitement filled the air as we waited patiently for our sparkler.

Reading her sweet e-mail brought back all those memories and it made me smile because I knew exactly what her grandmother was feeling.  I am so glad that sparklers are now a part of such an important day!  The memories will create a lasting impression on so many people and one day they too will hold a sparkler in their hand and those memories will come flooding back bringing a smile to their face as well!

Ideas for Wedding Poppers

Looking for something different to follow the Best Man's Toast at the wedding reception?  Scatter Champagne Wedding Poppers around the table and have guests pop them by pulling the string after the toast.  Guests of all ages will enjoy the big bang as silver confetti and streamers burst out of the little champagne bottle containers.

Champagne Wedding Poppers can also be used in the bride and groom's exit.  Brides have ordered the poppers to give to smaller children instead of giving them a sparkler, which is safer for children under the age of 8.

Another fun idea for wedding poppers is to use them at the wedding rehearsal when the bride and groom kiss or guests can cheer them on as they rehearse their walk down the aisle.

Details ......

Trying to decide what size sparkler to use at your wedding?  We have 3 fabulous sizes to chose from that will fit into any budget.

Our #14 Wedding Sparkler burns for 1.5 minutes and we recommend that the bride plans on giving each guest 2 sparklers to allow enough time for the bride and groom to make their way through a tunnel of sparklers.

Our #20 Wedding Sparkler burns for 2 minutes which give the bride and groom ample time to make their grand exit with all the sparklers still lit.

The #36 Sparkler burns for an incredible 4 minutes and when planned properly, can create stunning photos!

But keep in mind that it is too difficult to light the sparklers with matches or a regular lighter.  To save time, it is best to use a BBQ lighter to light the first couple of sparklers and then have each guest dip into a lit sparkler.  Staging a couple of people with BBQ lighters at the front and back of the line will make the exit go off without a hitch.

Saint Patrick's Day Wedding

Whether you are Irish or just want some extra luck for your wedding, Saint Patrick’s Day is becoming a popular day to get married on. There are plenty of fun ways to incorporate this theme, but green is an obvious color choice. Luckily, there are so many different shades of green to use that brides will surely find just the right hue to bring the luck of the Irish to their special day!

The Irish really know how to party, so make sure your reception is a glorious blast. I found this incredible cake from Marmalade Cake Company that sets the tone for a fun Saint Paddy’s Day wedding.

Be creative and have fun with your Irish wedding!

Photographers have great tips for fantastic pictures

If you want to capture incredible pictures of your grand exit, it is a good idea to talk to your photographer and let him / her know in advance that you will be using sparklers.  They know how to stage great pictures that you will cherish for years to come.

Amie Morgan, a photographer in CA, tells her brides that although it is VERY tempting and hard not to run through the tunnel of sparklers, she suggests walking through them instead.  The sparkler pictures have a slow shutter speed and pictures turn out better when the bride and groom take a leisurely stroll instead of the brisk jaunt through the tunnel.

This picture shows Adam and Chelsea Griffin taking a casual walk through the tunnel of sparklers at their Texas Wedding.  Their photographer, Mariel Garza, took a fabulous picture of them as they left their reception.

Just remember to talk to your photographer in adavace so they can help create magical memories for you!

Creative Ways to Display Your Sparklers

Looking for creative ideas on how to display your sparklers at your wedding reception?  I have a few great ideas that I want to share with you.  There are so many wonderful ways to display the sparklers, but I like them in a vase that is decorated in the coordinating color scheme of the wedding with pretty rocks at the bottom.  I have heard from brides that actually spray paint the metal stick of the sparkler and have attached a little card stating what time the Big Send Off is with a cute ribbon.

Taking the sparklers out of the box and placing them in wicker baskets or metal tins is also a very easy, cost effective way to display them as well.  You can use something as simple as raffia to decorate the container or use beautiful satin ribbons.

Here is a picture that a bride, Karen Hinkel-Mikus, sent in from her beach wedding:

This photo was taken by Jason Schafer, you can view his photos at www.schaferphotography.net.

I would love to hear from our brides that have special, unique ideas on what they did with their sparklers. Send me your pictures at info@buysparklers.com.

Happy President's Day!

For many years Americans have celebrated President's Day, which is George Washington's birthday, with desserts made from cherries.  People traditionally make cherry pies, cherry cakes or just eat a handful of right out of the bowl.  This tradition reflects on the legendary story of little George wandering into the garden and using his hatchet, and he hacked into the bark of his father's most precious English cherry tree.  When his father discovered that his tree had been vandalized, he demanded to know who had done this to his tree.

George stepped forward and said "I cannot tell a lie father, you know I cannot tell a lie!  I did cut it with my little hatchet."  His father's anger left his face and he hugged him and said "My son that you should not be afraid to tell the truth is more to me than a thousand trees!  Yes though they were blossomed with silver and had leaves of the purest gold."

I hope you enjoy this day as we honor not only George Washington, but all of our great previous leaders!

Happy Valentine's Day

Love is definitely in the air! But when I think about romance on this day, I certainly don't see a little chubby angel flying around with a bow and arrow. I think about flowers, velvet candy boxes, big red hearts and sappy love songs!

I want to share with you one of my favorite wedding pictures that one of our bride's sent in. When I see this picture, to me it represents what the word love really means!

Special thanks to Angela and Brandon Hall for sending in this gorgeous picture from their wedding on July 30, 2010. Photographer is Joe Fuertsch, and his website is www.n-visionphotography.com
