An arch of sparklers for your wedding

My favorite picture of my Mom and Dad's wedding is of them running under an arch of sabers. My Mom has clutched the side of her dress and ducked her head ever so slightly and my Dad is dressed to the nines in his Army uniform. Their faces are lit up with big smiles. It's a great military wedding tradition and creates a very memorable image for me.

Maybe that is why I like seeing sparklers used at the grand exit of a wedding. It is very reminiscent of my Mom and Dad's exit. Couples dash under lit sparklers with faces full of excitement and joy.

I found these pictures on the Jade McCully Photography website which illustrate this kind of exit perfectly. Long sparklers (#36 Gold), big smiles and a beautiful set of photographs.

Getting Married on 09-09-09?

Are you a bride getting married on September 9, 2009?

We have seen some orders for sparklers that will be used in weddings on that date, but just a few. Because the date falls on a Wednesday, it hasn't been as popular as August 8, 2008 was last year (which was on a Friday).

Is 09-09-09 considered lucky for a wedding date? You decide! Here are some ideas from Wikipedia about the number 9:

~ Nine is considered a good number in Chinese culture because it sounds the same as the word "longlasting."
~ The number 9 is revered in Hinduism and considered a complete, perfected and divine number because it represents the end of a cycle in the decimal system.
~ Nine, as the highest single-digit number (in base ten), symbolizes completeness in the Bahá'í Faith.

Sparklers for Sweet Sixteen Birthday Parties

Looking for a fun addition to your Sweet Sixteen Party?

Why not try sparklers as a favor at your Sweet Sixteen Birthday Party?
Sparklers are not just for weddings!

Sparklers are a wonderful way to add glamor and excitement to your celebration. Guests will have a blast lighting sparklers at a designated time during your party. Maybe it's when your cake arrives...or during a special song...or for your big exit!

And with a little coordination with your photographer, the energy and dramatic lighting of the moment creates amazing photographs. The photos with sparklers are sure to be some of your Sweet Sixteen favorites.

We suggest that you ask your venue coordinator if sparklers are permitted to be used on their property. Some locations may have restrictions. For additional safety, use BBQ lighters to light the first sparklers (then dip unlit sparklers into lit sparklers) and provide buckets or trays filled with a little sand or water for easy disposal. Please ONLY use sparklers outside.

A great indoor favor idea is to use our fun Party Poppers. Available in bright, festive colors, Party Poppers can be used either indoors or outdoors. Scatter them on tables with other party decorations or fill large buckets or vases for guests to grab a handful. The possibilities are endless!

How to light wedding sparklers

Lighting sparklers at your wedding can be quick and easy if you plan ahead and follow these suggestions listed below. You do want to coordinate how you light them and when you light them for the best results. Especially if you want your photographer to capture the fun and excitement of the moment for your wedding photos.

Here is what I recommend:

1 - Buy quality metal wire sparklers.
Be sure to purchase sparklers made out of metal wire. Do not buy bamboo stick sparklers. Bamboo sparklers produce significantly more smoke and will ash off as they burn down the stick. They can be very messy and I don't recommend them for formal occasions. All of our #14, #20 and #36 sparklers are made of metal wire and are beautiful for weddings. See these products at: http://www.buysparklers.com/category-s/3.htm

2 - Use helpers!
Coach a team of helpers to hand out and light sparklers. This may be your wedding party or select family members or friends. Ask them to spread out among the wedding guests and tell them when to start lighting sparklers (you may have a set time or signal for the start). Give them BBQ lighters to light the first few sparklers. Then tell them to show people in the crowd how to dip unlit sparklers into lit sparklers.

3 - Don't use matches.
Matches are not a good choice for wedding guests to light sparklers. Matches printed with the bride and groom's names or initials ARE a great favor for guests to take home as a keepsake from your wedding. Match books or match boxes are a classic wedding favor. But they do not light wedding sparklers easily. Windy conditions outside will make it hard to keep a match lit long enough to catch a sparkler. And the match just doesn't burn hot or long enough to catch a sparkler. A butane lighter like a BBQ lighter or cigarette lighter is best. And you don't have to have enough lighters for all your guests...just enough for your team of helpers to get things rolling (see tip #2).

Enjoy!

Love is in the air for wedding planning!

Seems like each February we start hearing from lots of brides. They are ramping up their wedding planning for spring and summer weddings. And with Valentine's Day happening next weekend, it's easy to get caught up in all the excitement!

Many brides want to know how to use sparklers for weddings safely. We have a few suggestions to share to keep your wedding safe and fun:

1. Only use outside.
2. Test one sparkler before your event so you know what to expect.
3. Light one sparkler at a time and never light a bundle of sparklers at once.
4. Use a lighter that keeps your hand away from the flame, such as a butane or barbecue lighter. Matches will not burn hot or long enough to light your sparklers.
5. Instruct guests to dip unlit sparklers into their neighbor’s lit sparklers to light up a crowd quickly.
6. Always light the sparkler at the tip furthest away from the wire handle.
7. Keep lit sparkler at arms length away from the face, body, or clothing of yourself or other people nearby.
8. Do not try to re-ignite a sparkler or re-light a “dud.” Dispose of properly by soaking in water.
9. Be sure to keep a lit sparkler away from flammable materials, such as gasoline, paper napkins, or tissues.
10. Never grab a burned or burning portion of a sparkler.
11. Keep water nearby (garden hose or bucket).
12. Dispose used sparklers in a bucket of water or sand or on a metal tray. Once the sparkler cools then the sparkler wires can be thrown into the trash.

Some are simply common sense, but all serve as a friendly reminder for how to safely use sparklers at a wedding or any special event!

Amazing photographs of sparklers at weddings

I was digging around the internet today and found several amazing photographs of sparklers at weddings posted on websites and blogs of professional photographers. I rarely get to see our wedding sparklers in action, so finding these photos is almost like opening up gifts from Santa on Christmas morning!

I think using sparklers in a newlywed's grand exit is so fabulous because of the dramatic lighting created. Talented photographers know how to capture the excitement and drama of the moment and those photographs become lasting memories.

I have posted a few of those photographs below. To provide full and honest disclosure, I have not contacted these photographers nor asked permission to use their photographs. But I have tried to give full credit by listing their names and providing their website addresses.

These are just a few of my wonderful discoveries...I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

She sent us a thank you note along with the photo...

"Attached is a pic of the sparklers we purchased from you for my wedding. We really loved the sparklers, thanks for helping us out so much and for speedy shipping to get it here in time." Amy R., Scottsdale, AZ

Thanks, Amy!
